Animation and Screenplay (Also Studio Animation)

Open to Students:

Course Description:
Animation is an eighteen-week course designed to meet the needs of any high school students interested in animation and film production. Emphasis will be placed on specific film genres, the history of film, cinematography techniques, film analysis, and animation, as well as character development and creating storylines. In the class, students will strive to develop and create a unique character and original screenplays. Through the viewing of classic films and animation through today’s modern films, students will receive a better understanding of plot, setting, point of view, characterization, theme, and symbolism. Attention is given to writing strategies that would enable the student to successfully complete a screenplay and movie by the end of the class. For the animation portion of the class, students will utilize not only computers to render their images, but will also experiment in older animation techniques, such as cell animation.

Introduction to Art/ Beginning Art

Open to Students:
Grades 9 - 12
Course Description:
Introduction to Art is a nine week course that will be designed to meet the needs of all high school students as an entry-level experience into the visual arts. Emphasis will be placed n developing an understanding of the sensory elements of Art (Line, Shape, Form, Value, Texture, Space, and Color) and their expressive qualities. Students will explore different forms of art making, such as drawing, painting, sculpture. Some Art history will also be introduced as it applies to the projects.
*INTRO will be taken along with a 9-week computer concepts class.
*Beginning art is a full term class.
Grades 9 - 12

Students will build upon their existing knowledge of the sensory elements of Art and apply knowledge of the organizational principles to create higher-level, visual expressions. Students will begin to critically examine prevalent artists and artistic periods throughout Art history, and learn how to talk about and evaluate works of art, including their own. The course will challenge students ’thinking and creativity by allowing them to express themselves, while also beginning to explore personal aesthetic and conceptual concerns.

The Drawing course will provide extended periods of time exploring self-expression in a variety of two-dimensional drawing media. Students will build upon their existing knowledge of the sensory elements of Art and apply knowledge of the organizational principles to create higher-level, visual expressions. Students will begin to critically examine prevalent artists and artistic periods throughout Art history, and learn how to talk about and evaluate works of art, including their own. The course will challenge students ’thinking and creativity by allowing them to express themselves, while also beginning to explore personal aesthetic and conceptual concerns.
Painting

Open to Students:
Grades 10 - 12

Students will build upon their existing knowledge of the sensory elements of Art and apply knowledge of the organizational principles to create higher-level, visual expressions. Students will begin to critically examine prevalent artists and artistic periods throughout Art history, and learn how to talk about and evaluate works of art, including their own. The course will challenge students ’thinking and creativity by allowing them to express themselves, while also beginning to explore personal aesthetic and conceptual concerns.
Studio/Advanced Art

Open to Students:
Grades 10 - 12
The Advanced Art course will provide extended periods of time exploring self- expression in a variety of two-dimensional and three-dimensional drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture media. Students will build upon their existing knowledge of the sensory elements and organizational principles of Art while developing sophisticated and individual approaches to visual expression. Contemporary Art history, art criticism, and college and/or career preparation will be explored. An AP portfolio, in drawing or two-dimensional design, may also be prepared as part of this course.

The Advanced Art course will provide extended periods of time exploring self- expression in a variety of two-dimensional and three-dimensional drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture media. Students will build upon their existing knowledge of the sensory elements and organizational principles of Art while developing sophisticated and individual approaches to visual expression.
