Welcome to the EPCHS Art homepage
This website was put together as a tool for parents and students in the Evergreen Park 231 school district. On this site you will find links to the pages associated with the Art classes offered at EPCHS.
The art program is intended to serve both the student who has a basic interest in art and will perhaps go into subsequent art courses at the college level and the student who will never receive further art training. Those students who continue work in the art program will have substantially covered all the basic techniques in most areas and will be acquainted with the materials, tools, and equipment that will be used in advanced work. They will be experienced in analyzing art problems in design, in composition and in the complete process of creating visual representation.

Memory Project Fall 2015
" The Memory Project is a nonprofit organization that invites art teachers and their students to create portraits for youth around the world who have faced substantial challenges, such as neglect, abuse, loss of parents, and extreme poverty. We want the portraits to help the children feel valued and important, to know that many people care about their well being, and to act as meaningful pieces of personal history in the future. For the art students, we want this to be an opportunity to creatively practice kindness and global awareness.
To do this, we receive photos of children and teens from global charities operating residential homes, schools, and care centers in a number of different countries every year.
We then provide our participating art teachers with full-page color prints as well as digital copies of those photos, along with plastic sleeves to protect the finished portraits. The art teachers then work with their students to create the portraits, and we hand-deliver them to the kids (we have several different art students create portraits for each child based on several different poses). Finally, we make a video of each delivery to share with all of the art students and teachers involved.
Since 2004 we have created more than 80,000 portraits for children in 35 countries." - https://memoryproject.org/
Mrs. McArthur's fall drawing class continued EPCHS's trend to participate. The students chose to draw children from Ethiopia.

Pinwheels for Peace
The Art Department participated this year in a special project Wednesday, September 21st, called “Pinwheels for Peace”. This project is a global, annual event. It was started in 2005 by two art teachers from Florida and has grown to the point that last year more than three million pinwheels were spinning in more than thirty-seven countries around the world! The idea is to invite students to create pinwheels decorated with their thoughts and illustrations about world
peace, tolerance, and living in harmony with others. The symbol of a pinwheel is meant to remind us of our childhood when life was simple and peaceful. The reason why this event takes place each year on September 21st is because, in 2001, the United Nations Assembly declared that September 21stbe observed each year as the International Day of Peace. We will be creating our pinwheels, in partnership with the students in the AERO program, in the LRC during every block. After each group creates their pinwheels, they will be going
outside to plant them along Kedzie and 99thSt. as a public visual statement.
